Your non-traditional English teachers

Experience
OnWord was started by two teachers with over 25 years of teaching experience combined.

Improvement Focussed
Whilst most language agencies focus on providing lessons, we want to focus on using our skills and experience and teachers to help all of our students achieve their goals in language learning.

Value
No more wasting your time and money – learn the right way with OnWord.

About OnWord

Modern
OnWord isn’t stuck in the old days. Our courses are conducted online, with modern technology and techniques. Our e-learning platforms utilise features most language schools overlook.

Effective
OnWord uses a teaching style based on the OULT method. This methodology focuses on what is proven to work, to ensure that you receive the best results.

Individual
Not every learner fits into a box, so OnWord avoids doing just that. Where other language schools might focus on levels and syllabi, we focus on improvement and learning.

Flexible
Every student is different and OnWord recognises that. Therefore, our approach, resources and timing can be adapted to fit your needs.

Continuous
Short bursts of learning don’t work and languages aren’t learnt overnight. OnWord knows this and creates courses which focus on continuous improvement.
FAQs

When you break it down to the per-60-minute price, OnWord is about average for English lessons in the Czech Republic.
However, with other agencies, they do not offer the intensive study programme that OnWord offers. It is often the case that learners will get one weekly lesson for years and will see slow progress at best.
With OnWord, our aim is to see you progress. Therefore, you’ll be paying for English lessons for a shorter time (and thus paying a lot less) overall.
Whilst other agencies make more money by slowing your progress, we want you to succeed, finish your lessons as a capable speaker, then recommend us to your friends and colleagues.
We usually recommend booking a 12-week course, which gives the learner and teacher the chance to set a realistic and reachable goal, within that time frame.
However, it is possible to book longer or shorter courses, depending on your needs. For this, it’s best to call us up and discuss it with your soon-to-be teacher.
All you need is an internet connection, speakers and a microphone. Your laptop’s speakers and microphone are usually enough.
A webcam and a headset are a bonus. We find that using webcams can make the lesson more motivating and flow more easily. You can even decide on the day whether you fancy using the webcam or not.
It is actually possible to have your lesson via your smartphone, but we don’t often recommend this, as it may affect the connection and may make any written presentations/demonstrations harder to see.
OnWord is primarily an online learning agency. However, if it is practical, it might be possible to have face-to-face lessons in the Olomouc area. This is decided on a case-by-case basis and we can’t guarantee that this will be possible for everyone.
However, you can always give us a call and ask.
Unfortunately, the traditional method of having one 45 or 90 minute lesson a week and nothing else simply doesn’t work. For most subjects it’s not great, but for languages, it’s even worse.
To learn a language, you need regular interaction with the topics you’re learning, preferably in a controlled environment where you can encounter, practise and use the topics, without going too far above your comfort zone.
This is exactly what OnWord offers – an effective, intensive, controlled method of continuous improvement.
Some people think that online lessons have a bad reputation, because during the recent lockdown, lessons were rushed online with no time to prepare, to much dismay from students and teachers.
However, for those who were prepared and for teachers who were ready for the challenge of adapting, online lessons became better than face-to-face lessons in certain ways.
OnWord has had a long time to improve the structure, scope and technology with our online lessons, so they are as good as (in some ways better than) standard face-to-face lessons.
Studies have shown that a number of factors can motivate you to work and study when you usually wouldn’t expect yourself to do so.
It’s an investment: with other agencies, any homework is a chore, but with OnWord, it’s not extra work – it’s part of the paid course. Therefore, you’re more likely to feel positive about it and motivated to do it.
Specific tasks: a lot of what makes self-learning demotivating is the lack of structure – not knowing what you’re supposed to be doing. With OnWord, we give you specific tasks, so you know what you need to do next, which keeps the motivation going.
Short tasks: the self-study tasks are designed to take 15-20 minutes each. All you need to do is find a short amount of time in the day… and not every day, either – only 3-4 times a week.
If you really can’t find the time, you can always do it later. Our schedule is flexible, so you can find the time when you have it. If you can’t do it this week, you can always do it another week. It won’t be as effective, but it will still be ready and beneficial.
It is possible for OnWord to provide group lessons in some situations; however, we don’t usually recommend this.
Group lessons are only really useful in the OnWord structure if all learners are at the exact same level. As OnWord seeks to tailor a course to each learner, this is less effective in a group setting.
If a group lesson is booked, all learners should ensure that their internet connection is strong enough to not interrupt other peoples’ learning.
